LIGHTS has long-standing expertise in research-based documentation, books, conference materials, policy publications, and strategic communication, supporting governments, international agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions.
(A) Original books published:
LIGHTS has an extensive publishing and communications portfolio, including
25 in-house books. LIGHTS’ original research ideas were supported by ministries and embassies.
A Breath of Frost: An Anecdotal History of India’s Journey to the Frozen Continent, supported by the
Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES); two
Springer titles -
Science and Geopolitics of the White World:
Arctic–Antarctic–Himalaya and
Climate Change and the White World was also supported by
MoES; and
Realizing the Korean Dream: Glimpses into the Diaries of Indian Scholars, supported by the
Korean Embassy, and
Investor’s Manual for Energy Efficiency by
IREDA/World Bank.
(B) LIGHTS Journal:
Geography and You (GnY) in English and Bhugol aur Aap in Hindi are published monthly as periodicals on environmental and development issues. Over 150 issues of each of these have been published to date.
(C) Publication development:
LIGHTS has also produced
over 50 publications, including books, brochures, and conference materials, in Hindi and English for organisations such as Development Alternatives, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the
Building Social Housing Foundation (UK).
(D) Periodical development:
LIGHTS has developed prominent newsletters for
Nehru Yuva Sangathan (Nehru Yuva Sandesh) for four years,
Akshay Urja for the
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for three years and
WBREDA for one year, providing complete services from content development and design to printing and nationwide distribution.
(E) Original research studies:
LIGHTS has also conducted
NHPC-supported socio-economic studies for several
hydro-power dam sites across the Himalayan region. It also conducted a socio-economic study for
IREDA for Jaisalmer wind farms.
